Book Talk

The name of my book was titled First Date by R.L Stine. The story begins with a guy and a girl making out. He feels she is too clingy and he repeats in his head how much she looks like "her". He feels sufficated and chokes her, then he decides to move to Shadyside to find his next victim. Chelsea, the protagonist, just moved to Shadyside, she's never had her first date and she only has one friend, Nina. She gets sarcastically asked out by a couple guys but she likes the new kid in her homeroom, his name is Will. Meanwhile a guy named sparks, who scares chelsea, asked her out but she regected him and he acted very violently. The FBI contacted chelsea about a very dangerous guy, sparks fit the description of the guy. Sparks and Chelsea get into a conflict and sparks severly burned his hand. Since he's wounded she calls the FBI to come get him and they send hi to the hospitol. Chelsea is very shy but she is eventually able to start a conversation with Will and he asks her out, but it was supposed to be a secret date. Will wants to kill every girl that looks like his mom and sister because they left home when he was little and they left him behind with his drunk dad, and his dad beat him every night.He tries to push chelsea off a cliff on their date, and he tried to strangle her twice but failed. He asks her out again and she agrees. They go to Chelsea's house and she tells Will that she told Nina about their date and now Will wants to kill Nina to.The FBI called chesea to tell her Sparks is the worng guy then she knows its Will.

MY OPINION: I liked the overall story, but what i didn't like about it was that there was alot of repitition, and the reveal of who the murderer was, was revealed to early and openly in the story. I would have prefferred a bit more suspence and mystery in it. The story portrays Sparks as the murderer but Will is a bit mysterious to. Perhaps if chelsea wnet out with both guys that would have prolounged the suspence. The ending almost makes you think Chelsea became a zombie, or that Will is going to get away with it but everything turns out fine and it is a good momentaril twist. I recommend this book if you like watching criminal minds, murder stories, or if you enjoy stories about a teenage girl's messed up life.
