my view on gender double standards

I chose to write about this topic because it really upset me how their are such different standards and expectations for men and women. Although it always seems like the woman is judged more harshly than a man ( I'm not saying there arn't unfair judgments of men because there are, but there are more for women) . I always wonder why are some things ok for men but not for women? Why is a woman a hoe if she sleeps around, but why are men just being men? Why in the court system, a man is charged differently, more harshly,  than a woman? Why do men still earn more money than woman? These questions seem unimportant in day to day life, but never the less it still really irritates me. I am not an extreme feminist nor do i hate men, simply i would like to see a little more equality.

  1. I totally agree with you girl I also hate that when a guy sleeps around hes clled a pimp or a player like if it was a good thing, but when a girl sleeps around shes a hoe or essy. Thats messed up and its totally not fair.

  2. I really agree with you. We do not have equality in today's life. Everyone says we do but we don't. If a women want to be a firefighter everyone will have dounts on her because she is not a men. They say that she is not strong enough. Women only get the harsh insult if they sleep with the person they most love. When they break up the guy will be talking thing about her. But, she can not say anything of him sleeping around with lots of girls because he is a "pimp".

  3. Michelle and ladies,
You all have very interesting comments. I do feel there is an inequality in the roles between men and women. But, Michelle, what specifically do you want to be equal between men and women? Is it job opportunities? Or salary earnings? Is it that you find women are not respected on the same level as men? Make sure you are specific with your thesis and stay focused on a few areas of inequality throughout your paper.

As a counter-argument to your topic: Why are some things fine for women and not for men? How come men are looked at as feminine when they cook, write poetry, don't speak with a deep voice, don't sleep around, etc? If a man stays home to raise the kids while his wife works, he is often looked down upon by other men as being weaker.

However, how is it possible that men and women can be equals? Though inequalities exist between men and women, don't you think their roles are necessary to keep the world running. The roles men and women play are important to keeping the world sane; if men and women live in the roles they are supposed to, won't everything run smoother.

Understand that my counter-argument does not reflect my personal beliefs. My words are an effort to encourage you to think outside the box.
